It is 11am, California time [19:00] Hello [19:00] I wonder if any international participants realize we had an hour time change last weekend [19:01] That occurred to me too. [19:02] Happy daylight savings time! [19:02] *** Jill joined #setiquest. [19:02] Hello Jill [19:03] just reading Dave Robinson's blog [19:03] Agenda: 1) ATA Un-hibernation 2) Dave Robinson's Blog, 3) Website issues (the FAQ is back) [19:03] 4) MWWT [19:04] 5) Google+ [19:05] 1) ATA-Unhibernation. Obviously has not happened yet! [19:05] Jill - can you give us a short status on that? [19:06] the antennas are all working and the correlator appears to be working fine. we are having ttrouble getting our SonATA1.0 system back on line. [19:07] I am going there tomorrow to "help" Ken and learn exactly what is going on. [19:07] HVAC is inadequate to run all our gear, so we are sharing time when our equipment is active. solution is being worked on - supplemental HVAC [19:08] it will be good to have Jon and Ken on site. it's really hard to figure out why we are dumping packets on the floor without any hands/eyes right there. [19:10] Jane was suspecting one or more of the router ports was flakey, causing a lot of missed packets. Or maybe some bad network cables. [19:10] I'll know more tomorrow. I'll also be writing a blog about my trip [19:11] FYI: New Kozmo cartoon posted at setiquest.org [19:12] *** Michaels joined #setiquest. [19:13] 2) Dave Robinson's Blog [19:13] Wait .. Is that Michael from China that logged on? [19:14] Hi. Ni nao [19:14] Are you back from China? [19:15] Oops. Ni hao. Dont stop for me. Am back but online briefly [19:15] no longer in China though [19:15] Right [19:16] I can not figure out how to flush the Forum aggregator. We had a lot of span on the forum, once removed the links are still visible on the front page [19:17] "a lot of spam" [19:17] Any idea how to control the forum aggregator? [19:17] yes. "spam", not "span" [19:17] It self flyshes every few hours or run cron [19:18] Send me email later [19:18] OK, thanks. Never thought to check for a cron job! [19:19] 2) Dave Robinson's Blog - he wrote an interesting blog. http://setiquest.org/blog/radon-transform-provides-alternative-waterfall-plots [19:20] Sigblips: I hate to tell you this ... Baudline needs a Radon detection scheme! [19:20] ;) [19:20] It already has one! I'm going to comment on Dave's post later. [19:21] Wow! I suspected that may be the case. have you ever used it on seti data? [19:22] Yes, it works well for specific things. More in my reply. [19:22] as Rod Deans found out when we were developing the DADD algorithm, radon is really compute intensive. [19:22] *** Michaels left irc: Quit: Colloquy for iPhone - http://colloquy.mobi [19:22] That was going to be one of my comments. To be useful it needs to be fast. [19:23] it might be useful to do some experimenting with the Hough transform. Peter Jenniskens is using that to find linear meteor streaks in his automated meteor cameras. [19:23] When was Rod Deans doing this development? [19:24] its the same problem straight line at unknown angle in 2-D image with background noise [19:26] Rod published a book on the Radon transform back in the 90's and it looks like its been reprinted/revised recently http://www.amazon.com/Radon-Transform-Applications-Dover-Mathematics/dp/0486462412/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320780295&sr=8-1-fkmr0 [19:27] The "click to look inside" feature works. Great. Thanks. [19:27] Jill, can you reply to Dave's forum post with that information? [19:28] yes - i'll also try to connect him with Jenniskens in case Peter is using some particularly fast version of the Hough [19:29] Thanks, Dave will like that [19:29] Dave posted a mention of his blog post in the forum which is great at attracting attention but now there are two places for comments. The blog page and the forum page. This is going to split responses into two places. [19:32] Goog point. I disabled comments on the blog. [19:32] I put text at the bootom saying to comment at the forum topic [19:32] On all blogs or just that one? [19:32] "Good point", not Goog [19:32] Just that one [19:33] There is an option if you edit the blog to turn off comments [19:34] That is a good solution. [19:34] 3) Website issues (the FAQ is back) [19:35] I figured out that the FAQ was disabled, so I enabled it. The hard part was finding out where to turn it on! Drupal has so many options, it gets confusing. [19:36] The Glossary is turned off too, so it is not available. If I turn it on, the glossary page is visible again, but so is the glossary links in all the text on the site. [19:37] We don't want all the glossary words to be highlighted. People did not like that. [19:38] The glossary links became very annoying but having a glossary of technical terms would useful for the project. [19:38] Was there another page I needed to look at, that was missing? [19:38] Sigblips: agreed. [19:39] The wiki might be a good home for a setiQuest glossary. [19:39] Ah - Terms of use [19:39] is missing [19:40] Sigblips: Yes, the wiki would be a good place. How do we transfer the text with minimal work? [19:42] We could create a glossary page with the old info. Or we could use the [Category:Glossary] to organize lots of little pages. A mix of both methods would probably be best. Don't want to add a lot of clutter with many small pages. [19:42] FYI: I won a Nook reader. Can't run setiquest Explorer on it because it will not allow me to update the flash version to 10.2 (it is stuck at 10.1) So this afternoon I am going to try to "root the Nook", the term for jailbreaking a nook. Hopefully then i can get setiquest Explorer to work on it. [19:43] What is with you and winning free tablets? (: [19:44] I went for 47 years without ever winning a tablet, now 2 this year. I am on a streak! [19:45] You still need to win an iPad 2 to make it a complete set! [19:45] Sigblips: I agree. [19:46] Back to topic - still looking for the terms of use page that disappeared. [19:48] 4) MWWT [19:48] Leash - are you still there? [19:49] We need to get back on this project - it would be nice to have the Microsoft World Wide Telescope updated with the planets we observe [19:49] *** leash left irc: Ping timeout: 265 seconds [19:49] Whoops! Leash is gone [19:50] *** leash joined #setiquest. [19:50] Hello leash [19:50] MWWT We need to get back on this project - it would be nice to have the Microsoft World Wide Telescope updated with the planets we observe [19:50] Had to move my computer. [19:50] And yes, that sounds good. [19:50] What can I do to help? Didn't you need to get someone's attention at Microsoft? [19:51] I never did get a hold of Microsoft to publish tours, so I just saved what I had written on my computer and left it alone. [19:52] Perhaps their contact information is old, but I might have to spend some time sleuthing around for someone to talk to me about this. [19:52] Can you send me an email with the details of what you wanted to do? Maybe I can get Karen to get someone's attention [19:53] It was just to publish a tour. I'll have to go back over my notes, but I can email you early next week. [19:53] I am super busy this week, and I have family in town for a funeral. [19:54] OK, whatever you can do will be appreciated [19:54] I have been working with Karen on another small project to publicize the ATA relaunch, but as the date is undetermined, the project is on hold. [19:54] Oh! I did not know that. [19:55] jrseti- No problem. I like volunteering like this. I graduate soon, so hopefully in the near future, I can spend more time with small (or big) SETI projects. [19:55] *** davidstrauss joined #setiquest. [19:56] great [19:56] Any other topics? Anyone? [19:57] 5) was Goggle+ [19:57] Right! [19:57] In what respect. [19:57] "?" [19:57] Google+ went live for brands. Should grab setiQuest before someone else does. http://www.webmonkey.com/2011/11/businesses-brands-invade-google-plus/ [19:58] how and how much? [19:59] Sign up for it and I think it is free. The article says Google+ for brands has become a land grab. [19:59] Maybe I should talk to Karen to see what SETI as a whole is trying to do with Google+ [19:59] I'll investigate this afternoon [19:59] i'll email Karen right now [19:59] ok [20:00] It is 12pm - anything else? [20:01] I can offer my assistance with that too. I'm pretty familiar with Google+ [20:01] bye [20:02] *** Jill left irc: Quit: Page closed [20:02] After the meeting I'll wait a couple hours before I post this transcript. Let me know when setiQuest has been grabbed. [20:03] leash: We'll wait to see what SETI/Karen is doing about Google+. We can discuss next IRC chat.
